Like many of the people who have discovered Neville and his teachings, I struggled to truly understand, embody and successfully apply the teachings at first. I found myself asking various people, “When did it click for you?”. I would read a lot of success stories where people would write stuff like, “Then one day I just assumed it was done, and then it happened within hours,” or “Reading this one sentence just made it click for me, and then everything unfolded easily and effortlessly.” And I kept wondering if “it” would ever just “click” for me, and eventually it did. It just wasn’t one click.
You see, changing at the core might take a little while. I don’t think you should overcomplicate it by assuming that it will be a long and painful journey, but neither can you expect to fully embody a drastic change in your perception of life, and what is real in just a “click”! If you do expect it, please don’t be hard on yourself if instead of one big life changing “click” it turns out to be a series of small clicks like it did for me.
I think that the more you practice asking yourself the right questions, and practice non-reaction, the more you will move towards embodying your true self. When you identify a story that no longer serves you, you can be free of it. And the more you embody your true self, the more stories you will let go of.
In the beginning, I would meditate on connecting to my true self even though I didn’t really know what that meant. Sometimes I felt that I had reached a higher state of consciousness, only to go back to feeling exactly the same as I did before my meditation. But then one day I succeeded in feeling pure and loving consciousness and I managed to stay there for quite a while.
When I embodied my pure consciousness, I began to understand what it means to see through the eyes of God. My true self was the embodiment of pure love and safety. She was me, but with no doubts, stories, and fears. And I realized that this part of me had always been right here within me. While being the embodiment of this pure love, I fully understood why so many teachers tell us to go within. Within is where the struggles, doubts and fears can be dissolved so easily and effortlessly.
I’m not going to paint the perfect picture from here. Some days I could hardly meditate because my mind was all over the place. Some days I struggled to go beyond my ego. But, I still knew that she was right there within me, so I just had to keep going. And every time I felt the presence of the real me, I became a little less human and a little more my true self.
Everyone’s journey is different. We each come with a bunch of stories and experiences that make us unique. However, I do believe that practicing being nothing but pure love and consciousness is a part of the journey for all of us. And I do believe that if you keep practicing coming home to your true self, then one day you will feel the relief of the “click”.
